Glennfiddich 12

The Deets Straight from the Source: Glennfiddich 12

Nose: Distinctively fresh and fruity with a hint of pear. Beautifully crafted and delicately balanced.

Taste: Characteristic sweet, fruity notes. Develops into butterscotch, cream, malt and subtle oak flavours.

Finish: A long smooth and mellow finish.

Personal Thoughts:

Not my absolute favorite, but still a good option for a smooth and “lighter” single malt scotch whisky. Let me explain:

At first glance, this whisky seems like all of the other lower-mid range whiskies on the the shelf…..and SURPRISE! It totally is just like the others…..if I’m telling the truth here.

The flavor itself is quite mild and slightly fruity, but has a strong alcoholic first impression- a little more difficult to simply sip and enjoy compared to any Macallan or Oban.

I’m not so sure about this “butterscotch, cream, malt” taste. Trust me, I sat there and tasted this for a good 30 seconds to coax it out. No luck. However, it does mellow out very well and leaves no unpleasant aftertaste.

Otherwise, I feel like there’s nothing special about this particular whisky, but it is still a good “go-to” for those night you’re not trying to think about what you’re drinking and are on a slight budget. Plus, pretty much every bar carries Glennfiddich, so if you’re in a pinch and don’t know how to pronounce the names of the other whiskies, you’re in luck.

I only ever order Glennfiddich when my other go-to whiskies are way over-priced and it’s my last good option. It really isn’t bad! But I feel like it’s the equivalent SMSW to Jameson, a blended whiskey, in popularity and flavor complexity. And I never ever order Jameson.

I’m not a professional whisk(e)y taster and you might disagree with me entirely about Glennfiddich 12 Year. Just know that I am a huge fan of single malt scotch whiskies in general for their mild, smooth, and drinkable nature. This one is definitely worth a try even though it is not as smooth as many SMSW, but it’s price point is great and is a pretty easy drink for those starting to dabble with whisky.
